One: Child with dispraxia
P was 12 when he first came to see me in April 2006. He had been diagnosed with dyspraxia but had also had a series of ear infections. He had a blocked nose both winter and spring. He was constipated and was frightened to go to the loo because of the pain. There were some days when the teachers would send him home from school because he was incredibly hot and flushed. He did not enjoy sitting still in class and was much happier wandering round. He had been given a lot of anti-biotics for his ear infections. After the first homeopathic treatment, his teachers and his learning support staff noticed that his behaviour was better. After two treatments, his appetite picked up and he was eating more and a wider range of foods. He began to stand up for himself at home, a wisdom tooth started coming through and he perspired more. Over the course of three months, his improvement in class was dramatic; throwing and catching balls remains a problem for him. His treatment is on-going.

Two: Woman with leg tremour
A woman of 48 came to me as she was anxious about a tremour in her legs. One leg would shake for half an hour and then stop. She called it her sensations. She would be wakeful for two or three weeks before this sensation came on and would stay up until 3.30 in the morning. Her periods were becoming erratic. She was a social worker in a high stress job. She was also caring for her mother part time with her sisters 400 miles away in the family home. She had not had time off work and says about herself at work ‘I do more than my fair share’. She was fearful of MS and of Parkinsons both of which would severely effect her life and work. She came to see me monthly over a period of 14 months. I gave her different remedies depending on her energy levels. She took up meditation and changed job to one with a much more supportive team. She started clearing out the garden, doing up the kitchen and repairing the roof of her house. She said she listened to her body more and stopped going out if she felt too tired. Overall she slowed down her pace and became less busy.

Three: An exhausted teenager
A young woman of sixteen came to see me with her mother. They had been to see her doctor but as she did not have a clearly defined illness, he could not offer her anything. They had tried lavender aromatherapy oil but this had not had a lasting impact. She was half way through her GCSE year and she was completely exhausted. From the beginning of the school year, she had had two weeks at school and then three weeks in bed mainly asleep. She felt she had a ‘fuzzy brain’. She had broken her arm trampolining three years before and I wondered whether this caused her body to go into shock when she faced a stressful period. Her periods were regular. She was not eating much at lunchtime, she loved living in clutter and, as she is dyslexic, she was often reading three books at the same time. After two months of treatment, she was able to attend school full time and had lots more energy. She was able to take her GCSEs and get into the college she wanted. She was no longer taking time out, but was able to concentrate and attend school. What was interesting is that as her energy improved, new symptoms like hayfever emerged and some symptoms like eczema returned. She now sees me as her homoeopath, and has taken her own decision to have treatment for these.
